Staten Island Zoo is a small urban zoo in New York City located in the neighborhood of West New Brighton on Staten Island. The zoo opened in 1936 and currently operated by the Staten Island Zoological Society. The zoo spans an area of just 8 acres (3 ha) and home to more than 400 animals from over 200 species. Major attractions include the Reptile Wing, Africa Wing, Amur Leopard Habitat, and the Horse Barn. Interestingly, the zoo is home to one of the largest collections of rattlesnakes totaling 40 species.
