New York City's Bronx Zoo is the world's largest metropolitan zoo, covering 265 acres (107 ha). The zoo is situated within Bronx Park in the city's borough of Bronx. Bronx Zoo opened its door to the public in 1899 and initially featured 850 animals in 22 exhibits. Today, the zoo is home to around 6,000 animals from nearly 650 species from around the world. Themed attractions include the Sea Lion Pool, African Plains, Baboon Reserve, and Butterfly Garden. Because of the large area, there are several entrances to the zoo.
