Yellow taxi cabs are recognizable icons in New York City with nearly 14,000 roaming the city. However, yellow cabs are concentrated in the lower half of Manhattan, where most of New York City's attractions are located. To get a cab, wave for one along the streets. Cab drivers are required by law to take passengers to any destination within the metropolitan area, but some may be reluctant to go beyond Manhattan. A maximum of four passengers can ride in the sedan-type cabs and five in the larger cabs that look like mini-vans.
