There are plenty of yellow taxi cabs in the southern half of Manhattan, but difficult to get one along the streets in other areas of New York City. Thus apple green Boro Taxis were introduced in August 2013 to improve the availability of taxis in other areas of the city, with plans to have 18,000 of these vehicles within three years. These apple green taxis are allowed to pick up passengers from anywhere in the city except the southern half of Manhattan (below West 110th and East 96th Streets), but can drop passengers anywhere.
