New York City - Staying Safe in New York City

New York City is often perceived to be a dangerous city but has one of the lowest crime rates for a large city in the United States. It is a safe city to visit but visitors should use their common sense regarding their safety like anywhere else when in New York City. There is a noticeable police presence in crowded areas, major tourist spots, and subways. Most common crimes against tourists are pickpocketing and bag snatching but rarely happens. However, likely encounters are the panhandlers - just ignore them and walk away.
