Greenwich Village (referred by the locals as "the Village") is a neighborhood in New York City's Downtown Manhattan. The neighborhood was once home of the bohemian and alternative culture movement, but those days have faded as gentrification resulted in high housing prices. Greenwich Village is now a upper middle income neighborhood and home for many families. Nevertheless, it remains a colorful neighborhood of New York City with its distinctive charm, liberal attitude, and strong community spirit.
