Founded in 1875, Buffalo Zoo was one of the first zoos in the United States and is the third oldest in the country. Buffalo Zoo is located at Parkside Avenue (in Delaware Park) and spans an area measuring 24 acres (10 hectares). The zoo is home to a diversity of wild animals including tigers, leopards, zebras, and elephants. Themed areas include the Asian River, Arctic Edge, and the African Watering Hole. It is a small zoo but nevertheless a popular attraction in Buffalo, attracting about 400,000 visitors each year.
