Manhattan, New York City - Statue of Liberty

The 151-feet (41 meters) tall Statue of Liberty is situated on Liberty Island in the middle of New York Harbor. The statue is a robed female figure representing the Roman goddess of freedom Libertas, and once welcomed immigrants to the United States arriving by sea. It is an iconic symbol and one of the most internationally well-known symbols of the United States. The Statue of Liberty was designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and dedicated as a gift in 1886 from the people of France to the United States.
