Albany, New York State - Driving to Albany

Interstate 90 (I-90) crosses the upper United States connecting Albany with the cities of Boston (2 hrs 45 mins) and Springfield (1 hr 30 mins) in the east and Syracuse (2 hrs 20 mins), Rochester (3 hrs 30 mins), and Buffalo (4 hrs 30 mins) in the west. The I-87 connects Albany with New York City (2 hrs 40 mins) in the south and Montreal (3 hrs 30 mins) in Canada in the north. New York State Route 5 connects Albany with Schenectady (30 mins) and the I-787 with Troy (15 minutes), both located north of the city.

Albany, New York State - To Albany by Bus

Several companies provide long distance bus services between Albany, often offering cheaper fares than by plane or train. Greyhound and Trailways stop at the Downtown Bus Terminal (near the waterfront at Hamilton Street) offering connections with cities across New York State and beyond including New York City, Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester, Boston, and Montreal in Canada. Megabus has a station located at the North Surface parking lot (off East Street) offering connections to New York City and Ridgewood in New Jersey.

Albany, New York State - To Albany by Train

The Albany-Rensselaer (Railway) Station serves Amtrak trains traveling in the northeastern routes. The station is not in Albany itself but in Rensselaer, located across the Hudson River and about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the city. Trains on the northeastern routes stopping at the station include the Maple Leaf (Toronto-New York City), Adirondack (Montreal-New York City), Empire Service (Niagara Falls-New York City), Ethan Allen Express (Rutland-New York City), and the Lake Shore Limited (Chicago-New York City/Boston).

Albany, New York State - Albany International Airport

Albany International Airport is a medium-size airport located about 12 miles (19 km) northwest of Downtown Albany. Though named an international airport, most flights handled are short haul flights (less than 3 hour) within the United States. The airport has direct flight connections with the US cities of Boston, Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago, Newark, Washington-Dulles, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Las Vegas. Airlines using Albany Airport include Cape Air, Delta, Southwest, United Airlines, and US Airways.
